The Golden Lining

A Visual Sound Representation of my Deafness

A painted gradient color base on canvas to show the vibrancy of sound tones at the most active and quiet parts of the day. Precise embroidery stitching of sound waves in multiple vertical, parallel segments range from calm to active settings in portrait format. Simply because it’s in the power of a cochlear implant and hearing aid that the user chooses when to activate & deactivate sound. The heavily detailed mixed-media piece is meant to metaphorically demonstrate patience Remy must endure daily with sounds that are not always recognized, painful or frustrating but viewed as a necessity to interact in a hearing world. The less stimulating and quieter parts of the day are often the most golden. There is also a subtle correlation to the Nevada mountain ranges to nod homage to the artist’s native hometown in Reno-Tahoe. Exhibited at Sierra Arts Fall of 2022.
